I was again left to my own devices for most of the OC but this time I had a car. Though I did try to go for a walk and again people looked at me like I was insane. Anyway, the OC actually has some really tasty food. Read on to find out what I found to eat in 24 hours in the OC.
The breakfast of champions can be had at Sidecar Doughnuts. Seriously the donuts here are really awesome. I couldn’t pick just one to eat so I got four (huckleberry, meyer lemon, almond crunch, and cinnamon). Lest you think I’m a total glutton; I only ate a quarter of each and saved the rest for my hard at work friends.
In order to counteract that breakfast, I had early lunch at Bear Flag fish company and ordered a poke salad. They have lots of fresh fish on offer and I love the avocado and edamame in the salad.
For second lunch, (I’m starting to feel like a hobbit) we had possibly the best tacos of my life at Taco Maria at the OC Mix. The fish taco was perfectly light and comes with kumquats and cabbage. The pork belly taco was marinated in a slightly sweet and mouthwatering sauce and comes with roasted cactus. They also have a fresh (very spicy!) chili oil that comes with the tacos. The tacos are a bit expensive at about $15 for two but the hype is real and it is totally worth it. Also, the lemonade here is super refreshing.
I needed to recover from that lunch so we had a late dinner at Din Tai Fung. I’ve pretty much never turned down a soup dumpling so I loved it here. You also amaze at the speedy hands of the dumpling chefs as you walk in.
For my last meal in the OC, we had lunch at Taqueria El Zamorano, which is maybe my favorite place in all of the OC. The people here are super friendly and the tacos are delicious and cheap. The guac is perfectly creamy and the shrimp and al pastor tacos are not to be missed. Everything is freshly made here.
Maybe I can sweat off the bulk of my meals in the desert…
