Let’s go to the Upper West Side for a picnic in Riverside Park. You can take the 1,2,3 to 72nd St and Broadway and walk west a couple of blocks.
Riverside Park is a great park that runs along the Hudson River with lots of green space, walking trails, and tennis courts. But Riverside Park is especially awesome in the summer because it’s warm and the NYC parks department puts on events every day of the week (you can check out the schedule here.) I really like the outdoor movie screenings that happen on Wednesdays and Fridays. It’s first come, first serve seating starting at 6:30 (the movie starts at 8 pm). When the seats are full, the ground in front of or behind the seats becomes available. If you go for the floor seating option, I would suggest bringing a blanket (and a cushion if sitting on pavement hurts your bum). Either way, stop by Sushi Yasaka before you get to the park to pick up some very tasty and simple rolls. I usually get the seaweed salad, tuna roll, and the sweet potato tempura roll but everything here is fresh and good. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
